Description of U-Pick Fruit Varieties
Peaches
Redhaven Peach - Medium, nearly fuzzless fruit, color is a beautiful red and golden yellow. Flesh is firm, smooth textured and with very good, low-acid flavor. It becomes freestone as it ripens and is an old-time favorite. Excellent for dessert, canning and freezing. (late June/early July)
Red Globe Peach - A large, round freestone. Skin is highly blushed red over golden yellow background. Firm, yellow flesh has excellent flavor. Absence of red in the flesh makes it an outstanding canning peach. Bruise resistant. (early/mid July)
Gene Elberta Peach - Large and flavorful fruit. Skin is blushed with a red covering. A well-liked, fresh market peach that can be canned or frozen. Fruit does not oxidize. (mid/late July)
Nectarines
Independence Nectarine - Medium-Large, oval fruit with brilliant cherry-red skin. Firm, yellow, freestone flesh. Rich, tangy-sweet flavor. (Late June/early July)
Flavortop Nectarine - The fruit is large, oblong-shape and freestone. The flesh is yellow, firm, smooth-textured and of excellent quality. Skin color at maturity is mostly red over an attractive yellow undercolor. Makes a good dried fruit. (mid/late July)
